Goal: Design an app for a Heads Up Display (HUD) within ski goggles.
We partnered with the hardware provider Recon Instruments and our app was featured at the Google I/O 2012 conference.
This one was tough because I had to determine what was the right level of information to display in a ski goggle without becoming a distraction and thus a danger to the skier and those around her/him. The other challenge was that the hardware provider themselves already had the “expected” features (speed, distance, etc.) in their out-of-the box display. So how could we augment that experience but still maintain the individuality of each ski resort?
Two Experiences
I delivered our development team a nine page PDF with an overview, navigation flow, screen mocks, and detailed, down-to-the-pixel layout designs.

- Skiing Down the Mountain
The hardware provider owned this with their default software. While we could have duplicated this functionality in our app, I chose to spend our time on the other part of the ski experience. - On the Lift / Top of the Hill
We delivered a solution that presented skiers with current trail conditions and lift statuses as well as snow and weather information. This could be easily accessed on the lift or at the top of the hill without ever having to remove gloves and pull out a phone that could get dropped or lost.
